Each year on June 15, the NGO Committee on Ageing NY co-hosts a prominent event in New York for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD).
A global initiative first established by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA) in 2006 and officially recognized by the United Nations in 2011 via General Assembly resolution 66/127.
Our annual observance of WEAAD seeks to raise public awareness, encourage preventive actions, and bridge critical gaps in responding to elder abuse worldwide. The event brings together civil society leaders, UN mission representatives, expert advocates, and survivors to examine systemic challenges and identify strategies to combat all forms of abuse—including physical, emotional, financial exploitation, and neglect.
