Building a Society for All Ages

The NGO Committee on Ageing NY is a committee of NGOs and individuals committed to advancing ageing issues across the United Nations ecosystem.

Since 1982 we have championed the rights, dignity, and
full participation of older persons worldwide, ensuring
that population ageing is recognized not as a challenge
to be managed but as an opportunity to be embraced.

Our Commitment

We support policies that empower older adults to live healthy, secure, and engaged lives. Working alongside UN agencies, Member States, and a global network of NGOs, we aim to:

Advance a UN convention on the rights of older persons

Elevate the voices of older women and marginalized communities

Promote the intersectionality of Ageing across the UN ecosystem.

What We Do

The NGO Committee on Ageing NY is aligned with the UN Principles for Older Persons: Independence, Participation, Care, Self-Fulfillment, and Dignity. Add your voice today. Review our newsletter and mailings, register for upcoming events, or contact us to discuss partnership ideas.

Together, we are building a world for all ages: one policy, one program, and one conversation at a time.

Advocacy and Coalition Building

Subcommittees, ranging from
Human Rights to Communications, offer hands-on opportunities to shape our agenda, coordinate joint statements, and mobilize cross-sector partnerships.

Knowledge Exchange

Our program meetings, newsletters and subcommittees translate UN deliberations into practical insights for grassroots advocates, researchers, and service providers.

Signature Events

We plan and organize New York’s
annual observance of the International Day of Older Persons (1 October) with UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) Programme on Ageing.

Get Involved

One in Five People Will be Over 60.

Yet older adults remain under-represented in decision-making and disproportionately affected by poverty, ageism (discrimination), climate shocks, and digital exclusion, to mention a few. Your engagement helps transform global discussions into concrete steps to ensure older persons are protected and represented across policy frameworks.
