The NGO Committee on Ageing NY encourages specialized areas of interest and advocacy within the broader topic of ageing and maintains several subcommittees which meet on a regular basis.
Our Sub Committees are listed below.
The goal of the Subcommittee on Global Alliances is to expand global partnerships to promote advocacy to elevate issues of Older Persons in the work of the United Nations.
Ensuring outreach to strategic potential partners to include UN agencies, Member States, Private Sector, Civil Society and Key Stakeholders.
Identifying potential speakers for NGO COA events.
Keeping abreast of UN activities by attending meetings to ensure that the NGO Committee on Ageing NY’s messaging is current.
Providing relevant information for inclusion on the NGO COA website.
The goal of Subcommittee to Promote a Convention for the Human Rights of Older Persons is the adoption by the United Nations of a Convention to Protect and Promote the Rights of Older Persons. The Subcommittee works closely with the Global Alliance on the Rights of Older People (GAROP).
The goal of the Older Women Subcommittee is to advocate, educate, and promote the human rights, dignity, safety, and social inclusion of older women as valued and contributing members of their communities and the larger world. This work will be approached through an intersectional lens, recognizing and respecting the critical aspects of identity that include, at minimum, gender, age, culture, race, ethnicity, socioeconomics, ability, nationality.
The basis for its work includes the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, the Beijing Declaration and Platform of Action, the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The general goals of the Intergenerational Subcommittee are to collaborate with youth at the United Nations and civil society NGOs to foster better relations among the generations, to work together on addressing global issues with a focus on human rights and to change stereotypes of age. The overarching long-range goal is to enable youth to better prepare for their own future aging and join with the ageing community to advocate for human rights for people of all ages, including older people.
The goal of the Communications Subcommittee is to develop a strategy for communicating Committee on Ageing activities and advocacy campaigns effectively and consistently to our various audiences across multiple media and platforms.
The goal of the Development Subcommittee is to raise funds to support the work of the NGO Committee on Ageing NY and its Subcommittees.
The goal of the Membership Subcommittee is to increase the membership of the NGO Committee on Ageing NY with a focus on representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and to ensure that concerns of members are taken into account with respect to their membership.
The NGO Committee on Ageing NY raises awareness of global ageing’s challenges and opportunities, advocates UN policy integration, and champions rights for older adults.
